Mantin is a small town in Negeri Sembilan, and the farm is a good base for the hills and waterfalls around it. Five places within 40 km, with the distance from our gate, and how to fit them around a stay.
Broga Hill, about 20 km
The sunrise hike everyone photographs. It is a short, steep climb to a grassy ridge with a view over the plains, and most people start in the dark to be up for first light. From the farm that means leaving before 6am and being back for breakfast, which runs until late morning. Wear shoes with grip; the path is red earth and gets slippery after rain.
Ulu Bendul Recreational Park, about 25 km
A river park on the way to Kuala Pilah: shallow, cold water to sit in, jungle trails and picnic spots under the trees. Good for a half-day with children. Bring a change of clothes and go on a weekday if you can; weekends are busy with local families.
Seremban town, about 30 km
The state capital is known for its food more than its sights: siew pao (baked pork buns), beef noodles and the Pasar Besar market. A lunch stop on the way in or out rather than a destination in itself.
Jeram Toi waterfall, about 35 km
A recreational forest around a tall waterfall with pools at the bottom. A half-day trip; the road in is narrow and the last stretch is on foot.
Gunung Datuk, about 40 km
The serious hike of the five. The summit has boulders you climb with ladders and ropes, and panoramic views across the state. Allow most of a day and start early; it is for fit walkers rather than small children.
Fitting them in
A two-night stay is the easy pattern: arrive on day one (tea at 3pm, dinner, the lights), do the farm's own guided tour at 9am on day two and one of the places above in the afternoon, and keep day three for Broga at sunrise before you check out at noon. Day trippers can do the same the other way round: Broga at dawn, then the farm from 9am to 5pm with lunch and tea included.
