THE ROUTE
About 2 km, two and a half hours, stop by stop
Every morning at 9. The time goes on the animals, not the walking. Feeding, the horse and the photos inside the enclosures happen here. The rest of the day you can walk past them any time.
The zodiac statues, 9am
Everyone meets in front of the twelve zodiac statues for the first photos. On a busy Saturday the caretakers split you into two or three groups. All of them start with the rabbits, the hill myna and the budgies.
The parrots and the bird park
One group goes here first: the parrot park, the ducks and geese, the koi, the marmosets, the bird park. Feed from your hand, then a parrot on your shoulder for the photo.
The stable
The other group starts here: feed the rabbits, the goats, the horse and the deer, a bottle for the baby goats, and the children ride the horse. Then the groups swap, so nobody misses either.
Serenity Garden
Past the bridge pavilion, the old horse carriage and the fish breeding pond to three big statues: Guan Gong, Guan Yin and Cai Shen Ye. Many guests stop to pray for good health and prosperity.
Up the hill beside the stream
The jungle leg starts at the lotus pond and climbs beside a stream. The gazebo partway up is where some sit it out; the rest carry on.
Lover Bridge
The rest point, with stone stools. Then statue after statue, a small pond and the rubber trees on the way up to the peacocks.
The peacock farm
Peacocks, turkeys, exotic birds and our one flamingo, with feed for them too. Then back through the forest to Lover Bridge, and over it.
The lookout, then the gallery, about 11.30
From the photo point you see the whole farm: the cafeteria, the lake chalets, the Art Gallery and Emerald Lake. Then down past more statues, the fish ponds and the lotus pond to the Art Gallery: old Chinese furniture, costumes, artefacts, calligraphy and ink paintings. The walk ends here.
Before you walk
- Closed shoes, a hat and water. The path climbs once, beside the stream, and comes down again past the lookout.
- Long sleeves and long trousers, or repellent: the lookout is where the mosquitoes are.
- Grandparents do it with a walking stick. Strollers do not: leave the pram at the room.
- If it rains, the walk is usually called off and the morning goes indoors: the games room, the gallery, the ink session.
- Rather skip the jungle leg? The ink painting session at the big table runs 10 to 11am, for those who do the animals and not the hike, missed last night’s session, or woke up late.
- Horse riding is from age 4: children of 4 to 7 sit up for a photo with a parent beside them, 8 and up ride a round or two, up to 80 kg. Mornings only, on the walk.
- Day Trip guests join the same walk at 9.

The walk is at 9am the morning after you arrive.
